In my positions at Butte, I have significantly influenced my role as the Legislative Affairs Director for Region I of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) and as of the Associated Students. I have advocated for pivotal legislative changes, such as resolutions like S24.02.03, which supports data disaggregation practices for diverse communities, including Latinos. Additionally, I promoted S24.01.03, aimed at improving educational and skill-building opportunities for undocumented students, and have testified on bills like AB 1855 and AB 1885, which focus on budgetary and educational reforms and have successfully advanced through legislative channels.
A key aspect of my leadership has involved backing events and initiatives that directly affect Latino and broader ethnic communities, including approving funding for the "Tú puedes mijita: The Power of a Cycle Breaker" event with the Center for Access, Success, and Achievement (CAS) and the Culture and Community Center. This event celebrated the challenges and successes of first-generation Latina/x students, fostering empowerment and community involvement.
Additionally, our board secured over $5,000 in funding for this event, reflecting my dedication to enhancing cultural and educational opportunities underrepresented students. Beyond DEI initiatives, we awarded over $85,000 in grants to student clubs and organizations! As AS President, I led various committees and initiatives, including strategic planning for campus issues, advocating for Cal Fresh in food services, and updating governing documents to meet contemporary needs. I established the Decolonization Task Force to maximize the impact of the Decolonize! Event on campus.
