COLLEGE AFFORDIBILITY
-
I will oppose unjustified tuition increases and advocate for fee waivers and textbook affordability initiatives. We’ve seen Chico State students rally against multi-
year tuition hikes, and I stand with them.
-
I will work with student leaders across the state
to push for more state funding to keep tuition low and expand financial aid.
-
I plan to promote Open Educational Resources (OER) and book loan programs to reduce
out-of-pocket expenses for course materials.
FOOD SECURITY & BASIC NEEDS
-
I will strengthen our food pantry
services, expand pantry hours, and increase
outreach so every student in need knows how
to get free, nutritious food.
-
We will partner with the Chico Cares Campaign and CalFresh enrollment programs to connect students with grocery assistance (Moreno).
-
I will also seek funding for grocery gift cards and more fresh produce distribution on campuS.
ACADEMIC EQUITY & INCLUSION
-
I will champion initiatives that close
these equity gaps. This means expanding tutoring and
mentoring programs, supporting first-generation and low-
income students with targeted resources, and working with
faculty on inclusive teaching practices.
-
I will push for diverse representation in
curriculum and campus leadership, ensuring we continue
Chico State’s progress in becoming a Hispanic-Serving
Institution and fostering a campus climate that celebrates
all cultures and identities.
-
going training in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for students and staff, and I will collaborate with groups like the
Office of Equity and the Diversity Council to implement
policies that uplift historically underserved students.
STUDENT HOUSING SECURITY
-
I will collaborate with campus Basic Needs services and local partners to expand affordable housing options.
-
emergency housing support. This includes supporting programs like rapid re-housing for displaced students.
-
advocating for grants to subsidize student housing costs CSU has launched a $5 million Affordable Housing grant program to assist housing-insecure students (“The CSU Battles Housing Insecurity”). We need similar investments here.
-
My administration will also work with city leaders to encourage the development of affordable student rentals and improve renter protections.
-
Providing secure, affordable housing is essential for student success and well-being.
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
-
A new CSU initiative will try to improve counselor-to- student ratios to 1:1,000-1,500 by 2026 (Cortez), but we need faster action.
-
I will advocate to hire more counselors and increase funding CSU Chico’s Counseling & Wellness Center to meet growing demand. Expanding group therapy, peer support programs, and tele-counseling options. are among my goals to make mental health care
more accessible.
-
I will also launch a campus-wide mental health awareness campaign (inspired by Chico State’s UMatter program) to reduce stigma and encourage students toseek help early.
